The Daily Backlog 120

Taking a break from talking about gaming to talk about thinking about playing new games!

Backlog Wishlist

Good day backloggers!! It’s another slow day here at The Backlog Odyssey, with not too much to report on the games we’re playing, so today’s post will probably be on the short side again. But in my quest to figure out what the heckfire I’ll talk about since I haven’t had much time to sink into the games I’m supposed to be playing. Well, except for Borderlands 2, but there isn’t too much to talk about there at the moment.

That’s when I thought it would be fun to reach out to all of you wonderful readers on the Twitter-verse to see what are some of your favorite and must play game, new or old. Games that could be used to broaden my horizons or inspire me to replay some of my favorites! The response was wonderful, with plenty of games for me to consider and daydream about!

And then just to add a little flavor and to keep it fast and loose, I’ll include some random pics I took while game hunting last summer!

To Dream a Dream of Backlogging

But in the interest of trying to control myself, because I’ve been known to splurge on games, I thought I’d try to narrow down all of the suggestions you sent me. You know, into a nice, concise, 5 game pile that’s easy to manage. And not only that, I resolve to try each of these games over the next year, because I value your opinion. That and I’m always up for an excuse to expand the backlog!

So, without further ado, here are my top 5 picks (in no particular order)!

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy – Suggested by @lady_sugarcube

Now this is a series that I’ve been wanting to check out for a long time. Originally released on the Game Boy Advance and having many sequels, I’ve always been hesitant to pick them up because I have a slight aversion of playing handheld games. But now that Capcom has released the first three comes on console with this compilation, it may be the perfect time to jump in!!

Azure Dreams – Suggested by @BlazeKnight0923

Ah, Azure Dreams. I remember seeing this game on the shelves of my old stomping ground, the local video store in the town I grew up in. At the time I was a die-hard JRPG fan and it’s cover art always intrigued me. But for whatever reason, I never gave it a try. Well, I may have, but for the life of me I can’t remember a thing about it. Anyways, this was a great suggestion and I’ll be excited to finally give it the shot it deserves!

West of Loathing – Suggested by @skinnymattk

This was an interesting suggestion, and one that I actually got multiple recommendations to play. At first glance the stick figure artstyle is a little off putting, but considering all the good things I’ve been hearing about it, I think I definitely owe West of Loathing a try! It’s supposed to be super goofy as well, so that seems like it would be right up my alley!

The Messenger – Suggested by @mathman1024

Now here is a game I’ve been drooling over since it’s announcement sometime last year. I’m a big fan of all things Ninja, especially in video game form. The Messenger has all the things I loved about the original Ninja Gaiden series back on the NES, but the added benefit of being able to take advantage of modern technology! I’d be very excited to play this game, and it has actually been on my must play list even before I asked for suggestions!

UN Squadron – Suggested by @backlog_blues

If there’s one thing I’m always up for, it’s a shoot em up. And UN Squadron is one of those SNES games that I’ve heard good things about for years, but have never had the opportunity to play. Not only that, but it’s a Capcom game! So, you can guarantee this one is going on my must have list!!

The Long Hundred

Well my friends, that’s going to do it for today! All excellent choices, and there were many more to pick from, but I thought this was a great spread that wouldn’t be too terribly hard to track down and play. Well, except for maybe UN Squadron and Azure Dreams, since they’re older and only the scalper gods above know what they’re going for on eBay these days. Though I guess I could just do a quick search…

Anyways, I hope you all have a great rest of your day and I’ll see you tomorrow!!
