Onwards and Upwards
Well fellow backlogger, we did! Not only did we make it through the slog known as Monday, but we made it to the seventh day of The Daily Backlog!! If I’m going to be perfectly honest with all of you, I really didn’t know what I was getting myself into with this whole thing. I mean, writing a post every dang day?? I’ve never been that consistent in my entire life!!
But, after getting through this first week, I can confidently say that’s it has been an absolute joy. Not only does it allow you readers to dive into the inner workings of the website, the podcast and the everyday goings ons of The Backlog Odyssey. It also gives me a place to expend my creative energy and allows me to talk about the games I’m playing as I play them.
Previous to this venture, I’d play a game and then occasionally write a review about it. Or maybe some odd topic that popped up in my head while brainstorming with my wife. But that didn’t always happen. Sometimes a game would run long and I’d lose motivation to write about it, or time would just escape me. Long form written essays are tough to pull off, even if they’re on a topic you adore and love to talk about.
So I guess I’m trying to say, thanks for reading! It means a ton to me and I can’t wait for the weeks to come. If you’d like to send me your feedback in The Daily Backlog, I’d love to hear it as well!! So shoot me an email at [email protected] or just tweet at me at @backlogodyssey with your thoughts.
A Backlog of Frustrations
Progress toward cataloging my game collection is coming along well. With about 90% of my retro titles filed away in The Backloggery database, I’m starting to move on to more recent consoles and handhelds including the Game Boy, GameGear, PS2 and various others. Meaning I’ll definitely have all of my games (at least the physical ones) available for your perusal!
As I mentioned yesterday, the more I sift through my collection the more problems I find. And the biggest one is seemingly missing games! For example, I know I own or at least owned Super Mario 64 and Super Mario World but for some reason they’re nowhere to be found. This did dampen my mood a little bit, but I guess it isn’t surprising that I’d lose a few games with all the moving around I did in my life. I will definitely have to remedy this one day though!! I mean, who doesn’t have a copy of Super Mario Word?!
Oh and if you’d like to see my progress so far you can visit the blog’s Backloggery account here.
Dung Pods are Delicious
I’m happy to say I was able to get some good progress in toward completing Monster Hunter: World as well! Now that I’m in the “High Rank”, it has unlocked a whole bunch more stuff I need to hunt down and grind for, but for some reason it has sunk its claws even further into me. I think it may be the added challenge and that you can find fun and interesting new items even in the places you’ve already explored. I also started to focus my item farming a little more so I can actually upgrade my gear instead of just picking up whatever I find and hoping for the best.
This whole Monster Hunter thing is becoming a nightly event in and of itself. My wife and I will block time in the evening, make drinks and snacks and strategically plan how we’re going to take down the Rathian and Rathalos at the same time! The best part is that it’s inspiring my wife to make us fun and tasty little treats like these chocolate dung pods.

Who would have thought poo shaped bon bons would be so delicious!
Seven Layered Backlog
I still can’t believe we made it to seven days, but there are still many more to get through. I haven’t felt the need to buy any new games yet, but I’m sure that’ll come soon enough. I mean the likes of The Last of Us 2 is supposed to come out this year! What have I done to myself!?
And with each day that passes we’re getting closer and closer to when I start recording for the January podcast! This month’s theme is your favorite gaming accessories so don’t forget to send your submissions to the show by emailing me at [email protected]! I’ll read each and every one, I promise! I gotta say, I was having a tough time coming up with my own list! So many to pick from! Oh and before I forget, keep an eye on our poll that’ll determine the category of games we’ll be playing for February. Find it here and vote if you can!
Until hump day my friends, have a great rest of your afternoon!
